IFRC General Secretary Mr. Sy: “Some institutions going for aid just write a report and go back”

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) General Secretary Elhadj As Sy paid an official visit to President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) Dr. Serdar Çam. Pointing that TIKA shows awareness to disasters in the world, Mr. Sy remarked the importance of the improvement of the cooperation between IFRC, TIKA and Turkish Red Crescent. 

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) General Secretary Elhadj As Sy, IFRC’s head of cluster for Central Asia, Eastern Europe and Turkey Elkhan Rahimov, Head of International Relations Kaan Saner and Expert of International Relations Sertaç Açıcı visited TIKA President Dr. Serdar Çam.

Stating that Turkish supports, especially for Syrian refuges, are commendable, IFRC General Secretary Elhadj As Sy told that natural disasters and humanitarian crisis like civil war/domestic disorders have recently increased but some aid organizations reach the crisis areas just to write a report and go back to their countries. Mr. Sy stated that he witnessed the same case in Nepal earthquake.

TIKA President Dr. Serdar Çam noted that TIKA is an institution which supports sustainable projects for development but cannot remain insensitive to humanitarian crisis recently occurred by natural disasters and wars. TIKA President recorded they support emergent humanitarian aids for crisis areas especially in Somalia, Iraq, Lebanon, Myanmar.

Stating that Turkey, as a stabile peninsula in its region, makes its supports on behalf of United Nations and all international communities, Dr. Serdar Çam remarked that Turkey was the third country which made the most humanitarian aid and the most generous one in proportion to national income. 

 “Aids made in a sincere way are more powerful than million dollars”

TIKA President Dr. Serdar Çam said that Turkey has performed both humanitarian aids and development supports based on sincerity and for this reason the effect obtained with million dollars by other organizations can be achieved with a small budget. TIKA President Dr. Serdar Çam completed his speech by expressing his gratitude from the visit of IFRC General Secretary Mr. Sy. 

IFRC General Secretary Mr. Sy getting information about TIKA activities thanked to TIKA President Dr. Serdar Çam for such an important project about children development when he learnt a pre-school building project in Tivaouane town of Senegal where he was born.
