21 November 2022The Exhibition of 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Türkiye and Cuba Opened in Havana
Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Vice-President of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), attended the inauguration of the exhibition for the 70th Anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Cuba in Havana.
Ambassador of Türkiye to Cuba, Vehbi Esgel Etensel, TİKA’s Vice-President, Dr. Naci Yorulmaz, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Ministry of Culture of Cuba, Ministry of International Investment of Cuba, representatives of the National Library of Cuba, ambassadors of many countries, university representatives, and academicians attended the inauguration ceremony.
Speaking at the inauguration of the exhibition, Ambassador Etensel thanked for the support given by the authorities of Cuba to the project.
Drawing attention to the historical extent of the relations between the Republic of Türkiye and Cuba in his speech, Yorulmaz said that the archives are important with regard to the registration of the historical extent of the relations between the two countries.
Mentioning the Latin America initiative of Türkiye, Yorulmaz concluded his words by summarizing the projects held by TİKA in Cuba.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Elena Casera Mesa reminded the importance of the relations between the two countries and thanked the Embassy and TİKA for their contribution to the two countries’ relations.
Yorulmaz came together with the students of the Turcology Department of Cuba
Visiting the University of Havana and Havana Turkish History and Culture Department established in 2013 by TİKA after the inauguration ceremony together with the accompanying delegation, Dr. Yorulmaz talked with the students who continue the Turkish course.
TİKA’s Vice-President, Dr. Yorulmaz, and Ambassador Vehbi Esgel Etensel met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Cuba, Josefina Vidal.
The topic of improving the bilateral relations between the two countries and TİKA’s contribution to the two countries’ relations through its projects were discussed at the meetings.
Visit to the Deputy Health Minister
Yorulmaz, with the accompanying delegation, met finally with the Deputy Health Minister of Cuba, Reinol Delphin Garcia Morerio, following the visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the meeting, the topic of providing emergency health benefits for some cities affected by Hurricane Ian which caused major damage in Cuba was addressed.
Emphasizing that Turkish foreign policy is based on entrepreneurial and humanitarian diplomacy, Yorulmaz stated that TİKA could carry out some projects in hospitals to be designated by the Ministry of Health of Cuba.
The exhibition will be open for visitors for 1 week at Havana National Library in the historical Revolution Square.
