03 September 2013The Project In Georgia To Renovate The Aisi Rehabilitation And Adaptation Center And Build A Miniature Greenhouse Has Been Completed
The renovation of the AİSİ Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center serving handicapped children in Georgia’s capital of Tiflis, the additional floor and miniature greenhouse were completed and opened for use by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate.
The renovation of the 2 buildings on an area of 9 thousand 200 square meters, which were transferred over to the AİSİ Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center by government decision to provide services to handicapped children and adults, the addition of a new floor and construction of a miniature greenhouse was completed by TİKA. The project, which was realized with the assistance of TİKA, aims to provide the technical equipment and infrastructure to prepare handicapped children in the 5–12 age group for special education in public schools and to provide the 12-18 age group young people with vocational training. Also the project aims to provide young people 18 and over with applied vocational training to ensure employment for handicapped people in the future.
The AİSİ Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center, which requested the project, was established in 2004. The center, which provided services to 30 handicapped people in the early years, will double its number of students after settling into the new facility completed by TİKA. The rehabilitation group at the AİSİ Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center is mostly comprised of academicians and there is also a psychologist and a pathologist and teachers of theatre, music, printing and sewing. Among the services provided by the center are medical rehabilitation, social rehabilitation, special physical education and pre-employment vocational classes and applications.
It was decided that a miniature applied greenhouse should be built in the AİSİ Rehabilitation and Adaptation Center in which renovation work was started in 2012 and completed in 2013, so that handicapped children could learn how to grow vegetables on the center’s property. The work that was started by TİKA on the mini- vegetable greenhouse in April was completed in July so that the children in the center could learn knowledge and skills to help them find employment in the future.
The Municipality of Tiflis, the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Security and the Ministry of the Economy became TİKA’s partners in the project, titled “The Road to Equality”. The realization of the project, which received the highest level of support by TİKA, contributed greatly to the recognition of Turkey and TİKA in Georgia.
