20 June 2023TİKA Set Up an Electric Training Workshop in the Republic of South Africa
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) set up the Electric Training Workshop at the Salesian Institute, based in Cape Town, Republic of South Africa.
Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu; Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pretoria, Ayşegül Kandaş; TİKA’s Coordinator in Pretoria, Abdülkadir Abukan; Institute Principal, Tony Austen; Board Member of Institute, John Doidge attended the opening ceremony of the workshop along with local media organizations.
Ambassador Kandaş, in her speech at the ceremony, mentioned the extent and the variety of the development projects that TİKA carried out in South Africa and said that they are feeling the excitement of the happiness and the pride brought by attending this new project’s opening ceremony. Emphasizing the value given to the development projects by Türkiye, Kandaş noted that gaining basic skills through vocational education brings freedom to individuals.
Minister Zulu mentioned in his speech that the institute is very meaningful for his country and such steps became crucial to develop bilateral relations and thanked TİKA.
TİKA’s Coordinator in South Africa Office, Abukan, in his opening ceremony speech, mentioned that they give particular attention to education for the activities of TİKA’s Office in Pretoria and that every project in the field of vocational training is meaningful. Abukan emphasized that this vocational training project in the institute acts as a sign of generosity of the Turkish people and the government.
Doidge, in his speech, while emphasizing that they are grateful for TİKA’s and Türkiye’s contribution that transformed the electric workshop into a place which will improve the learning experience of the institute students considerably, stated that this development would inspire the students to grow stronger and lead them to develop valuable skills and look for a brighter future.
In many countries, Salesian Institute aims to prepare children and young people, most of whom are growing up in dangerous environments and in economically poor conditions, for life especially by strengthening them via the vocational training. Salesian Institute, offering services since 1910 in Cape Town, provides training, especially for the children and young people of Cape Flats province, which is one of the poorest areas of the city.
