TİKA Supports the “Nursing Home for the Sick and Elderly in Bethany” in Baghdad

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) completed the repair and renovation of the “Nursing Home for the Sick and Elderly in Bethany” in Baghdad, and put the relevant units into service.

As part of the repair and renovation activities needed at the Nursing Home for the Sick and Elderly in Bethany, TİKA completed the reconstruction of the laundry and storage units and the repair and renovation of the kitchen.

In his speech at the opening program, Mustafa Yazıcı, TİKA’s Coordinator in Baghdad, expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the project and stressed the importance of the activities of the center. Yazıcı noted that they have always supported organizations that serve without discrimination on any ground such as religion, language, or race, and that they would continue to support such projects in the future.

In his speech at the program, Ali Rıza Güney, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Baghdad, stated that they appreciated the activities carried out with great sacrifices without any discrimination on the basis of religion, and that they were very happy to contribute to such activities on behalf of Türkiye.

The center, which was put into service in 2000, provides free care for patients who have been subjected to violence, need care, or have disabilities. 70 Iraqi people of various religions, including Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis, live at the center, which provides care, treatment, and accommodation for women who do not have any family and who have chronic physical and psychological diseases, especially due to ISIS attacks. In the shelter, where all employees are volunteers, the needs are met with the donations of philanthropists. The project aims to eliminate physical infrastructure deficiencies at the center and to improve the quality of life of the sick and elderly who are offered care.
