Emine Erdoğan Attended the TİKA Program in Hungary

First Lady Emine Erdoğan attended the program on the health care activities undertaken in Kenya through a collaboration between Turkey and Hungary with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

Accompanying President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Hungary, First Lady Emine Erdoğan got together with Hungarian President Janos Ader’s wife Anita Herczegh.  After watching a fashion show on the Hungarian culture with Herczegh, First Lady Erdoğan attended a program in the Semmelweis University on the health care activities undertaken in Kenya by Turkey and Hungary with the support of TİKA. During her speech, First Lady Emine Erdoğan said, “This project marks a first as it involves a sharing of the health care related experiences of Turkey and Hungary with Africa. This successful experience, which showcases how effective a multi-lateral collaboration on health care can be, will undoubtedly be a source of inspiration for other projects.”

Under the coordination of TİKA, within the scope of the “Program to Support Kenyan Health Care Services” that was carried out with a total of 81 health personnel, 15 of which were Turkish, 5 were Hungarian and 61 were Kenyan, 1,000 oral and dental health examinations, 875 oral and dental operations, 2,000 eye screenings, 175 eye surgeries focusing especially on cataracts, 20 gynecologic operations, 10 urologic operations, 35 pediatric operations, and 20 general surgery operations were performed. In addition, 75 emergencies were responded and 175 medical students and general practitioners from Kenya were offered applied training.

The program served approximately 4,500 people as part of the efforts to improve health care services in Kenya and increase the quality of life of Kenyan people. Through the activities performed jointly by Turkish, Hungarian and Kenyan doctors, the program enabled mutual sharing of the experience and transfer of knowledge while also allowing future Kenyan doctors to gain experience in their respective fields.
