29 December 2022International Training Programs Held by UNIDO and TÜBİTAK with the Support of TİKA Continue
The international training program titled “Eco-Friendly Production and Waste Management in the Leather Industry” was completed with the support of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
The international training program titled “Eco-Friendly Production and Waste Management in the Leather Industry” was held from November 21 to December 2, 2022, as part of the cooperation program conducted by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, TİKA, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and TÜBİTAK Bursa Test and Analysis Laboratory (BUTAL) since 2018.
The training, in which a total of 14 trainees from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe participated, aims to increase labor productivity and improve the knowledge and professional experience of trainees from developing countries, introducing innovative and eco-friendly approaches in the field of sustainable and clean production technologies, especially in the leather industry.
The two-week training program included presentations on the recycling and reuse of chemicals, water, and energy used in production stages in the industry, thus preventing pollution at its source and reducing production costs in the leather industry.
Technical field trips were organized
In addition to the theoretical training provided by faculty members from the Department of Leather Engineering at Ege University, technical field trips were organized to the plants and wastewater treatment facilities in leather organized industrial zones in Izmir and Bursa, to TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center, and to the pilot plant affiliated with the Department of Leather Engineering at Ege University.
The participants of the technical field trips were provided with extensive information on the tests and analyses conducted in the relevant departments of TÜBİTAK BUTAL.
The closing ceremony held for the training program was attended by officials from the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, UNIDO, and TÜBİTAK BUTAL, as well as the trainees. At the ceremony, the speakers stressed that such international training programs have a positive impact on bilateral cooperation. Then, certificates were presented to the trainees.
