The 11th International Magazine Fair organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Association of Turkish Magazines (TÜRDEB) took place in İstanbul.
The 11th International Magazine Fair organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Association of Turkish Magazines (TÜRDEB) took place in İstanbul between June 8 and 12, 2022. The central theme of the fair was “digital transformation”. Approximately 450 magazines, writers and publishing houses from 81 Turkish cities and 34 countries participated in the fair. The countries from the Turkic world that participated in the fair were TRNC, Azerbaijan, Iraq-Turkmeneli, Iran, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Crimea, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Cuvashia, Tatarstan, East Turkestan and Bashkiria. The Arabic countries that were present in the fair were Palestine, Egypt and Dubai.
“Modern magazines will be in the metaverse”
Ahmet Misbah, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism gave the opening speech of the fair and said that reading improves one’s imagination and thinking. Demircan pointed out that the business of publishing magazines is different from publishing books and added, “Magazines are fed by our thinking, and they give us the chance to put our ideas into action and express our ideas and emotions. In the past, it was the magazines that turned ideas into action. Today, now there is metaverse, a huge world where the common wisdom could be shared. Modern magazines will, perhaps, be published in the metaverse.”
The Municipality of Sultanbeyli Granted an Award
The most successful magazine of the year 2020-2021 was granted an award on the fourth day of the International Magazine Fair. The Municipality of Sultanbeyli was granted the “Magazine Friendly Municipality” award by TÜRDEB Magazine Monitoring Commission. Prof. Nabi Avcı, a former Minister of Culture and Tourism presented the Mayor, Hüseyin Keskin the award. The mayor said they will continue to carry out cultural activities and attach importance to magazines, arts, books and poetry. Prof. Nabi Avcı thanked the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, TİKA, Sultanbeyli Municipality, Esenler Municipality and all the non-governmental organizations concerned for helping to organize the fair.
