The Training Courses on Emergency and Disaster Response Were Completed in Cameroon

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) held the Introduction to Disaster and Emergency Response Training (ADG+) for Cameroonian healthcare providers in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey and the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon, as part of the Emergency Medicine Capacity Building Program (ATKAP).

As part of the project, 32 Cameroonian healthcare providers selected by the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon attended the Introduction to Disaster and Emergency Response Training (ADG+). The participants were given theoretical and applied training by Turkish instructors in Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon, for 5 days.

During the courses, the participants were given applied training on techniques for moving patients and injured persons, emergency scene management, hospital disaster and emergency planning, triage, infectious diseases after disasters, and emergency department management. Certificates were presented to the participants who completed the courses successfully.

The certificate presentation ceremony was attended by Volkan Işıkçı, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Yaoundé; Dr. Manaouda Malachie, Minister of Public Health of Cameroon; Burak Özden, TİKA’s Yaoundé Coordinator; and Cameroonian and Turkish healthcare providers.

Minister Malachie thanked Turkey for providing such great training opportunities and stated that he hoped similar health projects would be implemented in the future.

In his speech at the ceremony, Burak Özden, TİKA’s Yaoundé Coordinator, noted that they were happy to contribute to the development of the workforce in Cameroon with this program and that the training courses would be useful during the Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Cameroon in January.

In the second phase of the project, prospective trainers to be selected among Cameroonian trainees will be brought to Turkey for advanced courses in order to help them train other healthcare providers in Cameroon and to develop the emergency healthcare providers in the country.
