“Asia Shelter Forum 2022” was held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, with support from Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
The Asia Shelter Forum was held from 28 to 30 November 2022 in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, for the humanitarian shelter and settlement practitioners in the Asia-Pacific Region to exchange ideas.
The main functions of the Asia Shelter Forum, where Asian countries alternately organize a regional meeting each year, were decided as dialogue on the subjects of shelter and settlement and providing sustainable shelter opportunity at the national level to facilitate interaction.
The forum aimed to share experiences in the shelter sector and ensure coordination in the activities, and exchange ideas on various ongoing initiatives concerning disaster response, improvement, discussion of the determined needs, and shelter responses.
Experts in their fields from numerous countries attended the forum which lasted three days in Dhaka.
Views on various practices, supporting the society’s participation for the implementation of shelter and settlement programs in a safe, adequate, and respected way as well as the community-oriented and market-based shelter initiatives, were exchanged in the forum where lessons learned and experiences gained from the latest disasters, and experiences regarding the shelter response in the region were shared.
At the end of the forum, decisions on establishing a strong Shelter Practice Community network to develop the local capacity in the Asia-Pacific region, sharing knowledge, experience, and best practice at any level (local, national, regional, and global) owing to this network, and supporting the establishment of a National Shelter Platform in each country to create effective coordination mechanisms between various shelter practitioners and governmental institutions were declared.
