22 September 2023TİKA Supports Turkish Language Education in Georgia
With support from Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), a Turkish language class was opened at Sokhumi State University. TİKA provided the equipment for the class.
The opening ceremony took place in the university which is active in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Tbilisi, Ali Kaan Orbay, TİKA’s Vice President, Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Rector of Sokhumi State University, Prof. Dr. Zurab Khonelidze, students and invitees were present at the ceremony.
National anthems of both countries were sung during the program. Prof. Dr. Khonelidze thanked TİKA for supporting their university.
Khonelidze expressed his gratitude to Türkiye for supporting the state and the people of Georgia. He emphasized that the two countries are strategic partners.
Khonelidze emphasized that the “Turkology” class was opened with TİKA’s support. He stated: “You may consider this class as a small island of Türkiye, a Turkish field.”
Khonelidze also stated that Türkiye and Georgia are two countries in a region with similar interests. He emphasized that the opened class shows the strength of the Turkish-Georgian relationship.
“We are gathered for an opening that will further strengthen the roots of two sister countries.”
TİKA’s Vice President, Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz emphasized that the opening, which took place at the university they were in, will help strengthen the Turkish-Georgian relationship. He stated: “We are gathered here today for an opening project that will further strengthen the roots of two sister countries.”
Yorulmaz also informed that TİKA has been active in Georgia for 29 years in various fields such as health, agriculture, and infrastructure. He mentioned that among the projects they emphasized, education is the priority for them.
Ambassador Orbay expressed how happy he is to be in the opening ceremony of a class, in which the Turkish language will be taught and learned at Sokhumi State University in Georgia.
Orbay told to the students who attended the ceremony: “You are the greatest milestones and enablers of the bond of friendship, the cultural bridge, and the long-time friendship between our two countries.”
Orbay emphasized the importance of the relationship between the two countries. He stated: “Our further support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and safety of Georgia will always continue.”
