TİKA contributes to a better visitor-experience at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) continues its projects aimed at preserving the historical and cultural heritage in Syria such as the recently completed “The  Umayyad Mosque Infrastructure Development Project”.

The Project included providing aluminium expandable safety barriers as well as wooden separators with embroidered islamic motifs on, in harmony with the historical character of the Mosque. This new arrangement aims to better organize the circulation paths for male and female congregants in the courtyard and interior spaces without compromising the mosque’s historical and aesthetic value.

Additionally, new shoe racks were installed to provide convenience, particularly during prayer times and periods of high visitor traffic.
