04 June 2024TİKA Facilitates the Lives of Disabled People in Pakistan
20 electric wheelchairs provided by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) to empower disabled people were delivered with a ceremony to the Dar-ul-Sukun Rehabilitation Center, which provides rehabilitation and care services for people with mental and physical disabilities.
The Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Paçacı; the Minister of Health of the Government of Sindh, Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho; Türkiye’s Consul General to Karachi, Cemal Sangu; TİKA’s Coordinator in Karachi, Halil İbrahim Başaran and many other guests attended the delivery ceremony held at the headquarters of the Dar-ul-Sukun in Karachi.
The delivery ceremony started with greeting dances and songs performed by disabled children. Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Paçacı stated that Pakistan’s search and rescue teams helped Türkiye during the earthquake as a brother country and saved 28 lives from the rubble. He expressed that Türkiye also fully supported Pakistan during the flood disaster in the country.
Paçacı added that TİKA has reinforced the brotherly bond between Türkiye and Pakistan through the implementation of hundreds of projects with its two offices in Islamabad and Karachi.
The Minister of Health of Sindh, Dr. Pechuho expressed her gratitude to Türkiye, especially to TİKA, which contributes to healthcare development in the province of Sindh. She pledged full support from the Sindh government to facilitate TİKA’s activities in this field.
Noting that TİKA has been implementing projects that facilitate the lives of disabled people in many countries worldwide, as well as its development projects, TİKA’s Coordinator in Karachi, Başaran expressed his belief that the electric wheelchairs provided by TİKA will positively affect the daily lives of disabled people who receive services from Dar-ul-Sukun.
Following the speeches, 20 electric wheelchairs provided by TİKA were delivered to Dar-ul-Sukun, which provides rehabilitation and care services to children and adults with physical and mental disabilities.
The wheelchairs are intended to be used for the mobilization of disabled people receiving services across four different facilities within Dar-ul-Sukun.
