27 May 2025Turkish Doctors Continue to Heal in Uganda
Under the joint initiative of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Çare Association, a comprehensive health camp was organized in Yumbe district. During the camp, volunteer Turkish doctors and medical professionals provided free medical examinations and surgeries.
The Yumbe region, which faces significant challenges in accessing healthcare, hosted the large-scale medical campaign with the support of TİKA. The local population benefited from free healthcare services thanks to the participation of volunteer doctors, nurses, and health workers from Türkiye.
Due to limited healthcare infrastructure, residents of Yumbe struggle to access basic medical services. Within the scope of the campaign, dozens of individuals suffering from visual impairment underwent eye surgeries — particularly cataract operations — allowing many to regain their sight, significantly improving their quality of life and enabling better social integration.
Over the course of the program, 131 eye surgeries (including cataract and similar procedures) and 58 general and pediatric surgical operations were successfully performed. In addition, around 1,500 individuals received outpatient consultations and medical check-ups. To prevent post-operative complications, the team also provided essential medicines and medical supplies.
As part of TİKA’s coordination efforts, local healthcare personnel were trained in basic hygiene, post-operative care, and health management.
