Farmers Were Trained in Montenegro in Cooperation with TİKA

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Alata Horticultural Research Institute in Mersin, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye, held the “Greenhouse Vegetable Production and Disease and Pest Control Training” in Pljevlja, Montenegro, in cooperation with the Islamic Community of Montenegro.

The five-day training program was organized by TİKA and attended by more than 20 farmers from Pljevlja, Montenegro.

A certificate presentation ceremony was held on the last day of the five-day theoretical and applied training program. In his speech at the ceremony, Ferid Osmanagić, President of the Islamic Community of Pljevlja, stated that TİKA implemented major projects, especially in the fields of health and education, throughout Montenegro and in Pljevlja, and that the Islamic Community was happy to collaborate with TİKA on the said projects. Osmanagić added that they were grateful to TİKA for their agricultural support for families in need in Montenegro.

Prof. Murat Hocagil delivered a speech as the representative of Alata Horticultural Research Institute in Mersin, affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye. He noted that the training, which was held to eliminate the deficiencies in the field, would increase agricultural yield and farmers’ level of income. Hocagil said he was happy that especially young farmers attended the training.

In his speech, Abdurrahman S. Toprak, TİKA’s Coordinator in Montenegro, stated that TİKA prioritized projects for increasing employment and preventing migration from rural areas to cities in Montenegro. He added that they both supported the creation of new production areas and provided theoretical and practical training to improve production techniques, in order to increase greenhouse vegetable production.

TİKA has been active in Montenegro since 2007. It has provided fruit tree saplings to 320 families and greenhouses to more than 200 families as part of its projects for increasing agricultural production throughout Montenegro. The Agency has so far supported more than 2100 farmers. It aims to implement many agricultural projects to improve olive cultivation and beekeeping in Montenegro.
