TİKA Offers Educational Support to Albania

Building Number 6 of the Tirana Student City Dormitory, which was extensively renovated and equipped with hardware by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), was opened.

In line with President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN's orders, the extensive renovation and hardware-related activities of the male dormitory number 6 located in the campus called “student city”, in district one were completed and the opening was held.

The opening ceremony was attended by Albania's Prime Minister Edi Tama, Turkey's Ambassador to Albania M. Ahmet Yörük, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Besa Shahini, State Minister Responsible for Parliamentary Affairs Elisa Spiropali, Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj, TİKA's Tirana Program Coordinator N.Özay Özütok, students, and other guests.

Following the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Edi Rama came together with the students and expressed that the dormitory exceeded European standards. He conveyed his gratitude to all that were involved.

Moreover, Turkey's Ambassador to Tirana M. Ahmet Yörük said, "I am pleased to take part in the opening ceremony of this dorm, whose construction was initiated following the orders of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Turkey and Albania are friends and sister nations. They are connected by deeply-rooted, special bonds. TİKA, Turkey's international brand, has been carrying out grand projects successfully in Albania for 25 years. TİKA has implemented more than 500 important projects until today. TİKA is doing everything in its strength to contribute to the development of the infrastructure and superstructure of Albania and to meet the needs of our Albanian brothers and sisters. The student dormitory that has been opened today has been renewed inside and out, the walls have been painted, and it has been extensively renovated. All the rooms, furniture, and beds have been renewed, and the heating systems and common spaces have been modernized. Turkey has always stood by the Albanian people and it will continue to do so. I hope that this dormitory, which is the gift of the Turkish nation and our government to Albanian students, will promote the development of successful and determined young people who will carry Albania to a bright future.”

Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj, who is responsible for dormitories, gave a speech in which he expressed his gratitude to Turkey and TİKA for greatly improving the standards of the dorm and added that TİKA was always by their side.

The student dorm numbered 6, which was extensively renovated and equipped with hardware, will serve a total of 173 university students.
