TİKA Provides Wheelchair Support to Comoros

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) granted 200 wheelchairs to people with disabilities in Comoros.

TİKA completed yet another social responsibility project in Comoros and granted 200 manual wheelchairs to the Alms Administration of High Commissary of Islamic and Educational Services, to be given to people with disabilities.

The population of Comoros was 806 thousand according to the official polls dated 2016.  It is known that 0.7% of the population (6,470 people) suffer from disabilities and the majority of them are people with physical disabilities. The freedom of movement of people with disabilities is very limited in environmental and residential areas. The existing infrastructure is not sufficient for these people.  

With the project that was planned to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities into the social life, TİKA supplied 200 wheelchairs.

The people with disabilities, who were visibly overjoyed during the distribution of wheelchairs thanked TİKA and the Turkish people.
