TİKA Supports Educational Infrastructure in Cameroon

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) completed the renovation of Nyambaka High School, which was built in 1996 in the town of Nyambaka in Ngaoundéré, Cameroon.

In the school, which was granted bilingual high school status this year, TİKA built two new classrooms suitable for local conditions, improved the existing school building, and renovated the library building. The project also included the donation of textbooks to the school library and the construction of a football stadium called Ankara Stadium for students. With the installation of the solar power system for the water well, the construction of new fountains, and the landscaping activities, the school community, and local people were provided with access to healthy water.

The opening ceremony of the project was attended by Ayşe Saraç, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Yaoundé; Dr. Mehmet Yazgan, TİKA’s Coordinator; Dandi Eloi Gandaf, District Governor of Nyambaka; Mayor Abbo Aboubakar; Bia Houdou, Chairperson of the Development Committee of Nyambaka; and nearly 2,000 students, teachers, and parents.

In their speeches at the ceremony, Mayor Abbo Aboubakar and District Governor Dandi Eloi Gandaf thanked the Turkish authorities, stating that the improvement of the friendly relations between Turkey and Cameroon would be advantageous for them. The Mayor declared Ambassador Saraç and TİKA’s Coordinator Yazgan “honorary citizens of Nyambaka.”

Ayşe Saraç, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Yaoundé, stated that they provided development assistance to even the most remote parts of Cameroon through TİKA and that Turkey wished to strengthen the peaceful and friendly relations between the two countries in this context.

Dr. Mehmet Yazgan, TİKA’s Coordinator, noted that Turkey supported the people of Cameroon with the projects it implemented in various fields such as health, agriculture, and education through TİKA. He said that they hoped they would soon reap the fruits of the bridges of solidarity built between the two countries.

The high school, which has been granted bilingual school status (French and English) by the state, served 600 students prior to the project. With the renovation activities carried out by TİKA and the new classrooms built, its capacity was increased by 100% to 1200.
