22 July 2024“July 15 Translation and Digitalization Workshop” Established in Serbia with TİKA’s Support
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has established the July 15 Translation and Digitalization Workshop at the Dositej Obradović Public Library in Novi Pazar, the most populous city in the Sandžak Region of Serbia.
TİKA provided the necessary equipment for the workshop, which aims to translate, publish and digitize literary and cultural works to support the promotion of both the region and Türkiye.
An opening ceremony was held
The opening ceremony of the workshop drew significant interest from the local community and was attended by Hami Aksoy, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Belgrade; Osman Peşmen, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Novi Pazar and Nihat Biševac, Mayor of Novi Pazar.
In his speech during the opening ceremony, Mayor Biševac highlighted the projects carried out by TİKA in Serbia and the Sandžak region, expressing his gratitude for the establishment of the translation and digitalization workshop at the public library in Novi Pazar, which was inaugurated on July 15.
In his speech, Ambassador Aksoy of the Republic of Türkiye in Belgrade emphasized the significance of equipping and naming the translation and digitalization workshop at the Dositej Obradović Public Library after July 15. He noted that the solidarity shown by the Sandžak people with the Turkish nation against the treacherous coup attempt on July 15, exactly eight years ago, will never be forgotten.
A photography exhibition and a video depicting the background of the treacherous coup attempt on July 15 and the nation’s resistance were also presented at the opening.
About the project
The July 15 Translation and Digitalization Workshop, which will significantly contribute to sharing the rich cultural heritage of the Sandžak region with the world, will also serve other nearby cities.
Additionally, beyond libraries, museums and archives, the workshop aims to uncover and make accessible the rich sources of local cultural heritage found in household libraries.
Founded 100 years ago, the Dositej Obradović Public Library provides cultural and educational services to the citizens of Novi Pazar and the surrounding areas. Serving over five thousand students, the library aims to enhance its service quality by focusing on digitalization activities.
