TİKA and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation

The memorandum of understanding, which covers cooperation in various fields between Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), was signed during a ceremony held in Ankara.

The memorandum of understanding signed by TİKA’s President Serkan Kayalar and the British Ambassador to Türkiye Jill Morris at the ceremony held at TİKA’s service building in Ankara, aims to merge the knowledge, expertise and communication networks of the instiutions in their relevant fields of activity.

The memorandum, which plans to ensure cooperation in line with common goals in the efforts for international development, also covers the implementation of projects aimed at achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, reducing global poverty, ensuring education of girls, enhancing agriculture and food security, ensuring women’s rights, advancing rural development and fighting against climate change.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, TİKA’s President Serkan Kayalar said, “We attach importance to strengthening the relations between the two countries, which are progressing at a strategic level, also in the field of development cooperation. Within the scope of the memorandum, we will focus on concrete production and income-generating projects for third countries in cooperation with FCDO, in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

Ambassador Morris said, “We are excited to work on concrete projects in line with this memorandum we signed for strong cooperation with Türkiye, which we consider an important actor in the field of development for the United Kingdom.”

The signed memorandum of understanding is considered an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the parties and cooperating in joint development projects.

As the ministry responsible for regulating the United Kingdom’s relations and foreign policy with the Commonwealth countries and other countries, FCDO also executes programs to support sustainable development in low- and middle-income countries.
