Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus – Nicosia Program Office
TİKA’s activities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have expanded significantly since the opening of TİKA’s Nicosia Office in 2019. A variety of projects have been implemented across multiple sectors, including education, health, agriculture, strengthening administrative infrastructures, support for civil society organizations and cultural cooperation. TİKA develops initiatives that directly impact the lives of individuals in the TRNC and works to ensure that the struggles of the Turkish Cypriots are remembered and passed on to future generations. One notable project is the Museum of Barbarism, a symbol of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle. This museum, located at the site of the Bloody Christmas attacks in 1963, was where Major Nihat İlhan’s wife, Mürüvvet Hanım and their three children were martyred. TİKA has restored the building and transformed it into a modern museum that narrates the history of the Turkish Cypriots’ struggle. TİKA continues to collaborate with TRNC authorities to support the Turkish Cypriot community through various ongoing projects.
